Leave it blank if you’d rather have it plain — the price is the same. Letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes and hyphens. Accents welcome (é, ó, ü). No emoji — the laser can’t.

How it will look

Type a name above and it appears here. This is a drawing of the layout, not a photograph of your set — the real thing comes as a proof, by email, before we cut anything.

A short second line
0 / 24

We email you a picture of the layout before we cut it. Nothing is engraved until you say yes.

Reserve — £0 today

We’re gauging demand for our first run. This isn’t a pre-order and it isn’t a deposit: no card, no charge, no obligation, and you can walk away at any point without telling us why.

  1. You tell us which set you’d want and what you’d have engraved.
  2. We count. If enough people want it, we cut the first 40 and email you the real price, the real lead time and the real photographs before anyone pays a penny.
  3. If not enough people want it, we email you and say so, and that’s the end of it. That is a real outcome, not a soft launch.

We haven’t had one of these in our hands yet, so every figure above is the manufacturer’s. We’ll measure the sample ourselves and correct this page — with a dated line at the foot of it — the week it lands.

Measure your wall before you buy. The gap by a front door is almost never as wide as it looks.

Will it fit your wall?

Measure the clear run of wall you have, and the drop from where you’d mount it down to the nearest obstruction — a radiator, a skirting board, a light switch. Both in centimetres. Nothing is sent anywhere — this works in your browser.

Type a measurement and you’ll get a straight answer.

Not sure where to measure from? The Small-Flat Measuring Guide covers the four measurements people forget. It isn’t written yet, so there is nothing to download —put your name down and you’ll get it the day it is.

This isn’t for you if…

…you want it under $20, with Prime shipping.
Buy the FifthQuarter Key Holder with Drawer and 6 Hooks ($19.99, 4.8★, Amazon (US), 4,100 reviews) or the Rebee Vision Decorative Key Holder with Shelf + Mail Organizer ($9.98, 4.7★, Amazon (US), 7,000 reviews). Both are good, and both have more reviews than we’ll have for years. Ours costs more because it’s engraved and comes as a set. (Those two are Amazon US listings — we haven’t found a UK seller doing the identical bundle at the identical price, so we’re naming them in the currency the data actually came in.)
…you want it genuinely handmade.
RippleCreekDesigns’s Key Holder and Mail Shelf on Etsy is $39.99, 4.9★, Etsy, 286 reviews. It’s made by one named person, not rendered and engraved to order like ours. If the maker’s name is the point, buy from the maker.
…you need it this week.
You can’t have it this week, and we’re not going to imply otherwise. Nothing has been made yet — this page is us finding out whether the first run is worth cutting. If someone’s moving in on Saturday, buy something local.

We don’t earn anything if you buy any of these. We’re not in the Amazon affiliate programme.

Getting it to you, and sending it back

Dispatch

We can’t give you a date yet, and we’re not going to make one up. Nothing has been cut: this page exists to find out whether the first run is worth making. When it is, the plan is engrave-to-order and then ship — and the pieces come from our supplier in China, not from a warehouse in Britain. We’ll email every date and every number to the people who reserved, before anyone is asked for money.

You’ll see other shops in this category promise UK next-day on the same product. We’d have to lie to write that, so we haven’t.

Returns

Unengraved items: 30 days, free, we pay the postage. Send it back for any reason or none.

Engraved items: personalised goods are the one exception to the 14-day change-of-mind return — under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, anything made to your specification is exempt, because we can’t sell someone else’s name. So we do two things instead. One: we email you a picture of the engraving layout and cut nothing until you approve it. Two: if anything is wrong — a fault, damage in transit, or a mistake in our engraving — we remake it or refund you in full, and you don’t post it back.

Your rights for faulty goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply either way, engraved or not. Full detail on our returns page.

Why this exists

A key-and-post shelf is a solved problem at £15–20. There are dozens of them on Amazon, most are fine, and we’d say so even if we didn’t sell this. What isn’t solved is the one you’d give someone: the cheap ones are anonymous, and even the well-reviewed ones don’t have a name burned into them.

So this is a set rather than a single board, and the name is burned into the wood rather than printed on it. That’s the whole difference, and it’s the only reason the price is what it is. Everything else about it is ordinary bamboo, and we’re not going to pretend the bamboo is the point.

The practical consequence: it needs two real screw holes to carry the weight of coats and a week’s post, not a command strip; it comes apart into separate pieces when you move; and there is nothing to make good when you hand the keys back, beyond the two holes themselves — which is more than most listings in this category will tell you about their own fixings.

That matters more in a rented hallway than any amount of finish quality.

The engraving, close up

The laser burns roughly 0.3 mm into the surface, the same process as the desk set’s — deep enough that you can feel it with a thumbnail and shallow enough that it doesn’t weaken the shelf. That figure is the manufacturer’s and we haven’t verified it. When we have a sample we’ll measure it with a gauge and correct this line if it’s wrong.

What’s in the set

  • Two pieces — £59.99: Wall shelf with three hooks, Key dish. 40.0 cm wide, hooks dropping 22.0 cm below the shelf.
  • Three pieces — £79.99: Wall shelf with three hooks, Key dish, Mail and post tray. Same width, the tray dropping 34.0 cm below the shelf.
  • One engraving, on the shelf’s front edge, included at no extra charge.

Care & materials

Bamboo with a plant-oil finish. Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it. A hallway sees more temperature swing than a desk — a porch draught in winter, direct sun through a glazed door in summer — so give it a wipe with a food-safe oil once a year if the surface starts to look dry. Don’t mount it directly above a radiator.

Reviews

0 reviews. Nobody owns one yet, so there is nothing here. We will never write, buy, import or trade a review for a discount, and there is no star rating in this page’s structured data because there is no star rating to report. When the first real ones arrive they’ll be marked verified buyer with an order number, and the one- and two-star ones will be published unedited with our reply underneath.

Read the guide before you buy

We haven’t written a hallway-storage guide yet — this is the first thing we’ve tried outside the desk. When we do write one, it’ll compare everything in the category, including things we don’t sell, with the prices and the centimetres side by side, the same way our desk guide already does. Until then, the section above names the alternatives directly.

Questions

Am I being charged anything today?

No. There is no card field on this page and no basket anywhere on this site. A reserve is your email address and which set you’d want. If we make the first run we’ll email you the real price and the real lead time, and you decide then.

When would I actually get it?

We don’t know, and anyone in this category who tells you next day is either holding UK stock or lying. We’re not holding UK stock. When the run is costed we’ll publish the real window here and email it to everyone who reserved.

Can I have it without the engraving?

Yes, and the price is the same. Leave the field blank. An unengraved set also keeps the full 30-day free return, because it isn’t made to your specification.

What can the laser cut?

Letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes and hyphens, up to 16 characters on the first line and 24 on the optional second. Accents are fine. Emoji aren’t — there’s nothing for the beam to cut.

What if you spell it wrong?

You approve a picture of the layout before anything is cut, so it shouldn’t get that far. If it does — our error, a fault, or damage in transit — we remake it or refund you in full and you don’t post it back.

Do I need to drill into the wall?

Yes — two keyhole fixings and two screws, real holes, not a command strip. A loaded coat hook and a tray of post are real weight, and nothing sticky holds that reliably for long. If two small screw holes aren’t something you can do to this wall, we’ve named who to buy from instead above.

Related

Nothing yet. This page is a single, stand-alone test, not a shop front — a “you may also like” rail here would be furniture pretending to be a catalogue.

Corrections

Nothing to correct yet — this page is new. When we get a figure wrong we’ll put the date and the old number here rather than quietly editing it.
